Picasa google drive12/15/2023 ![]() ![]() Trick Picasa into thinking it is using the databases installed on the local system for the local user, while accessing databases in a folder on a network drive.Using the info in this post, you achieve the following things: You can do things 2 and 3 of your list by using symbolic links to a locally-mounted network location. This gives one step access to any photo / database set. You can create Shortcuts on your Desktop to start Picasa with each database. This makes it possible to show and work with your pictures on any computer. ![]() The only thing that must be installed on the computer is Picasa itself. It is very easy to create a portable solution where the pictures and database are on a portable or USB drive. For instance separate databases for vacations, hobbies, and jobs.ĭatabases can be created in any location, including network drives, and can be shared by multiple computers and users. This allows you to have separate pictures /database sets for different projects or uses. You can create any number of Picasa databases and sets of pictures. PicasaStarter enhances Picasa and adds the following features: You can only use/have one database per user, choosing between multiple databases is not possible. Picasa doesn't allow the database and pictures to be shared among different users (not on the same computer, not in a network).īy default, Picasa puts the Picasa database in the user's private Application Data folder which is on the C: drive. ![]() Picasa without PicasaStarter has the following limitations: PicasaStarter is a small application that provides a solution for a number of shortcomings of Google's Picasa, the image organisation and editing application. Why Google won't address server/network abilities for Picasa is beyond me. but I just can't get to them in any usable way.Ĭan anyone tell me how I can transfer all of these photos to my SD storage? I have already set the Camera app to store new photos on my SD card.Īs much as I love the Priv, I really miss some of the standard BB10 features like file handling.PicasaStarter seems to be the only decent application addressing this major shortcoming of Picasa. I have relatively few apps installed so this is most certainly where the pictures are. In "Storage" under settings, it shows that I have 7.07GB in "Apps(app data & media content)". I can see that the photos are definitely stored in local memory since my SD card still shows as being almost completely empty and the local memory now has ~6GB less free space. I've even searched the complete file structures looking for anything ending in. I have connected to the Priv via USB and browsed both the local and SD memory exhaustively. What is weird is that I cannot find where they are stored on the Priv anywhere. Terrible.Īll of my photos are now on my Priv, and all show up in the Google Photos app no problem. I just had 4500 photos in completely random order. Without at least the date info, there was no way to logically sort the photos on the Priv. This was the only way that I could get the pictures transferred over in such a way that they maintained their file information like date, location, camera info, etc. I then set up my Priv to sync the Google Photos app with my Google Drive account. Ultimately I ended up connecting my Passport to my PC and using Picasa to sync all of my photos to Google Drive, using the "Sync to web" slider. I tried a number of different methods to transfer my photos over to my Priv with varying success. It was also easy to tell native BB10 apps where and how to store things. With BB10 File Explorer, it was SO easy to see where everything was and move files around. I had around 4500 photos on my Passport (taken on devices going way back to the Storm), all on SD storage. ![]()
